I collect all sorts of different types of media and electronics. This channel containes samples of a number of things that I work on in my spare time.
Panasonic RA-6100 12 WPC Receiver from 1979
Why would I want a Technics by Panasonic SA-1000 330 WPC when I could have this RA-6100 12 watts per channel wonder at .8 THD?
This was a throw in with a purchase of a couple Realistic receivers a couple years ago from someone I met up with on Facebook Marketplace. I didn’t think anything of it at the time. In fact I wasn’t going to even accept it, but then when I got it home and after looking at the bronze face plate, I just had to fix it.
It was putting out straight DC, and had a bad STK chip. After purchasing a new one on eBay and I don’t remember if it’s a fake or NOS, it seems to be working great. And I run it from time to time just to keep it going.
There’s a lot of airspace in here....

I have owned this receiver since new, always sounded very good. The spectrum analyzer does not light. I watched a video on a repair of the same JVC where a wire adhesive had gone bad and caused a "jumped" circuit on the board. Thoughts?

I know that nobody knew what was going on but some of the other networks covered this way better than this network.

Do you happen to have a service manual for this receiver? I found one that keeps blowing fuses and am trying to repair it.
I was unable to find the service manual, but noticed that the 805V is very similar. I would just use this as a starting point. A friend of mine has a 705 as I do and is having a problem with one of the voltage rails which feeds the audio circuit. While we never actually got it fixed (long distance repair back-and-forth via text). We found that it shares some of the same circuits as the 805. www.hifiengine.com/manual_library/jvc/rx-805v.shtml

Just out of curiosity, what do you mean under this receiver doesn't have STK modules? It uses amplifier modules from Sanken, the SP-40W, yes they are not STK but they are just as rare amp modules, and they are almost impossible to find, just as the STK modules. I would avoid the SX-650 just because of that. The 550 and the 750 are using transistors in the power stage, much more repair friendly...
Hi, thanks for your comment. You are correct that the Sanken’s are very difficult to find. I have a couple receivers that have them, and I’ve never had a problem, and everything I have read has pointed towards those being much more reliable than STK packs. I have over 40 receivers from various vintages and brands. I have blown up STK chips just when units have been powered on and not stressed, I find them to be very unreliable, but they work good when they are functioning. In general, most I’ve been able to source NOS or used STK’s from different places, including eBay. But there are a lot of fakes. That said, most folks will say the SX-650 is preferred over the SX-680 which has STK chips. But everything as a matter of opinion - getting a unit that has more readily available replacement parts might be a better option depending on your preference.

Use an eyedropper or a Q-tip, this bottle will last you a very long time. Be sure to get the rubber surface or belt, wet, and let it soak in. If it’s a belt do both sides you may have to go from an angle.

No, you have to be careful so if you actually are running it while it’s playing a tape, you gotta make sure you don’t push the belt out of the way that sort of thing but just put some drops as it’s going by. The idea here is to preserve the moisture in the belt so as long as you give it a coat on both sides by applying a little bit of this, it will seep in and help preserve it. This might be extreme, but I also do all rubber fittings and parts, like if it has rubber feet on the bottom of the unit, I coat the rubber feet because those will crack eventually and fall off.

I worked at NBC at 30 Rock during this. I was getting my morning coffee and bagel. I started work at 9Am. I always stopped to watch the today show on the monitors outside the buildings and was watching this in shock. I watched the second plane hit. This exact broadcast. Then I got a call from my boss to come get my stuff from the office because they were shutting the building down. Everyone had to come out. We stood in front of the building and Rosie o donnel started a prayer circle and then everyone hugged each other. And went on their way. It’s eerie to see this broadcast again. Brought me back right to this. Saddest day I’ve ever experienced.
